Three cities on the Silk Road

Our own guides shooting these routes on the ground this season — Shahrizabz's photos are still coming in, shown here as illustration in the meantime.

The Registan, Samarkand

Samarkand

The Registan at dusk, when the tiles turn from blue to violet and the tour buses have gone. Timur's capital, and still the most photographed square in Central Asia.

Poi Kalyan complex, Bukhara

Bukhara

A living old town rather than a museum — traders in the same domed bazaars their families have worked for centuries, and the Kalyan minaret that Genghis Khan reportedly refused to destroy.

Shahrizabz

Timur's birthplace, and home to the Ak-Saray gate — once the largest portal in Central Asia. A day trip from Samarkand, and far quieter than either.

“I recently traveled to Georgia with Travo Travel Agency, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! Our guide, Aswin, was outstanding and he felt more like a friend than a guide. The activities we did were enjoyable and created lasting memories. I highly recommend Travo for anyone looking to explore Georgia!”
