Geghard
Chambers cut straight into the cliff, some of them lit only by a shaft in the rock. A UNESCO site half an hour from Yerevan, usually paired with the Roman temple at Garni on the same day.
Lake Sevan
One of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world at 1,900 metres, with the Sevanavank monastery on a peninsula above it. Cool even in September, and an easy day from the capital.
